US expecting possible North Korean tryout during Biden’s visit to Asia – 05/18/2022 at 20:57

WASHINGTON, May 18 (Reuters) – U.S. intelligence has determined that North Korea may conduct a nuclear test or a missile test, or both, ahead of or during U.S. President Joe Biden’s visit to Asia, a the White House national security adviser said Wednesday.

“We are preparing for all eventualities, including the possibility of such a provocation occurring when we are in (South) Korea or Japan,” Jake Sullivan said at a press briefing at the White House.

Joe Biden is expected this week in Seoul and Tokyo, where he should notably discuss the North Korean file with local representatives.

The American president will not take advantage of this visit to go to the demilitarized border (DMZ) between the two Koreas, as was planned, also indicated the spokesperson for the White House, Karine Jean-Pierre.
